Jamaican singer-songwriter Alain says confidence does not mean being free from fear, but choosing to continue despite it.
Speaking on the No NDA Podcast, Alain said she has performed in situations where some audience members turned their backs, ignored her or did not respond positively. She acknowledged that those moments can still affect her emotionally despite years of experience.
Alain said there have been occasions when she returned to her hotel room after a performance and cried. However, she said she would eventually collect herself and focus on the next scheduled show.
She explained that her approach is rooted in knowing what she brings to the stage and continuing to use her talents even when everyone does not appreciate them.
Alain said creatives have to accept that not everyone will like their work, while avoiding the mistake of allowing external reactions to define their worth.
