Venezuela’s acting President Delcy Rodríguez has announced that she received a phone call from U.S. President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, during which both sides discussed taking what she described as “important steps” toward ending restrictions affecting Venezuela’s commercial airspace.
Speaking during a public address, Rodríguez said the discussions form part of an ongoing working agenda between the two governments. According to her remarks, the objective is to allow commercial airlines to resume operations and encourage investors to return to Venezuela.
“I want to inform you that today I received a call from the President of the United States, Donald Trump, and his Secretary of State, Marco Rubio… we are taking important steps and are talking about ending the restrictions on Venezuela’s commercial airspace,” Rodríguez said.
If the discussions result in policy changes, the move could mark a significant shift in relations between the two countries after years of aviation restrictions and diplomatic tensions. A reopening of commercial airspace could improve international connectivity, facilitate business travel and potentially support broader economic recovery efforts.
