The Grand Bazaar Police Post has officially opened, marking a new chapter in Trinidad and Tobago’s post‑State of Emergency security strategy. The post, located at the Churchill‑Roosevelt Highway interchange, is now one of the first of 30 joint police and Defence Force facilities to become operational.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad‑Bissessar announced the nationwide initiative in August, with Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander naming Grand Bazaar, Tarouba Flyover and Eddie Hart Grounds as the inaugural sites. The programme aims to place law‑enforcement teams in strategic spots to make policing more visible and accessible to local communities.
The Grand Bazaar location is particularly significant due to its position near one of the country’s major commercial hubs. Its opening comes as the State of Emergency, which began earlier this year, reaches its scheduled end on September 17, but the government stresses that the enhanced security presence will continue beyond the emergency period.
While the original plan called for 30 posts, authorities have reported a surge in community requests for similar facilities, underscoring growing public demand for improved safety.
With the post now active, the nation takes a decisive step toward a more stable, community‑focused policing model.
