Former Prime Minister Stuart Young has called out the United National Congress (UNC) government for highlighting major natural gas projects advanced under the previous People’s National Movement (PNM) administration, while accusing it of failing to introduce a single new gas project since assuming office.
Young shared footage of Energy Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal outlining progress on the Manatee, Coconut and Dragon projects in Parliament, using the contribution to reinforce his argument that the current administration is benefiting from energy developments initiated before it took office.
In his Facebook post, Young accused the government of attempting to rewrite the country’s energy history, declaring: “Not a single new gas project under the UNC. NOT ONE.”
His criticism was not directed at the importance of the projects themselves, but at what he described as the government’s attempt to claim credit for developments advanced under the PNM.
