Dancehall artiste Rygin King says he is spending time with his children and attending to his health after returning to Jamaica on October 22 following months in United States immigration detention.

Speaking to Observer Online, the singer said he had not seen his children in five years. His immediate priorities include reconnecting with them and undergoing medical checks as he settles back into life on the island.

The artiste, whose real name is Matthew Smith, also described enjoying Jamaican food and time by the sea. He indicated that fans would hear from him soon, but gave no specific timetable for a public appearance or new music.

According to the Jamaica Observer, Smith had been held by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement since March 2026. His detention reportedly came shortly before a scheduled green card interview, with unresolved charges from a 2024 New York weapons case complicating his immigration proceedings.

Smith pleaded not guilty to six charges arising from a traffic stop in Queens. Police alleged that he possessed a loaded firearm. The Observer reported that Smith said the charges were dismissed in October.

Sources close to the singer told the newspaper that concerns about his health influenced his decision to leave detention. They described the departure as voluntary deportation, although the precise legal arrangement remains unclear.

Smith lives with a disability following a shooting. The report provided no confirmation that his green card application had been reinstated or that he had permission to return to the United States. For now, his stated focus is his children, medical checks and settling back into Jamaica.
