A 40-year-old Couva man was shot dead in Malick, Barataria, after travelling to inspect a car advertised on Facebook Marketplace, according to a report published by Associates Times on October 24.
The report identified the victim as Shimmel Marshall, of Watson Court Extension, and said the shooting occurred on October 21, 2026. He had travelled with a 57-year-old companion to view a vehicle advertised for $15,000.
According to the account, the men were travelling in a gold Nissan Tiida along Ninth Avenue at about 11:45 a.m. when three masked men stopped their vehicle near LP11. Two of the men were reportedly armed.
One gunman approached Marshall, who was seated inside the vehicle, and demanded money. The report said Marshall replied that he had none, after which the attacker fired several shots at him.
The suspects fled west along Ninth Avenue. Marshall’s companion took him to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, where he was pronounced dead. Crime scene investigators reportedly recovered two 9mm shell casings and other evidence.
Associates Times drew a comparison with the killing of Steve Anthony in the same area on October 21, 2025. Anthony had also travelled with a friend to inspect a car advertised online when masked gunmen demanded money and opened fire.
The report describes similar circumstances surrounding the two killings, but does not establish that the same attackers were involved.
