Alain says she approaches personal and professional relationships with a clear expectation of mutual respect and is prepared to establish boundaries when that standard is not met.
During an appearance on the No NDA Podcast, the Jamaican singer-songwriter said knowing who you are helps determine the tone of every interaction.
She said she enters spaces believing she deserves to be respected while also making an effort to respect other people.
According to Alain, when someone fails to show that respect, she is willing to have a direct conversation about what would be required for their interaction to continue.
She said there have been occasions when she has paused relationships or interactions to address behaviour she considered inconsistent with the other person’s character.
Alain added that if the necessary level of respect cannot be maintained, she is comfortable allowing the relationship or interaction to end.
