The North Central Regional Health Authority unveiled two eight‑seater electric golf carts at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex today. Positioned at clinic entrances and the main gate, the carts shuttle patients, families, and staff between the car park and hospital buildings, operating from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. free of charge.
Designed for elderly patients, individuals with disabilities, and anyone facing mobility challenges, the service reduces the long walks previously required to reach taxi and maxi‑taxi points. It also eases movement for staff, especially those on late‑night shifts, by providing a reliable, safe transport option across the sprawling campus.
Dr. Tim Gopeesingh, Chairman of NCRHA, praised the initiative, emphasizing that patient care extends beyond clinical treatment to include comfort and accessibility. He noted the carts’ electric power as environmentally friendly and announced plans to add two more carts for use along two 1,000‑foot internal corridors.
CEO Bhadase Seetahal‑Maraj echoed the benefits, highlighting improved workflow for employees and a smoother experience for visitors. He described the carts as another step in the Authority’s ongoing effort to modernize EWMSC and enhance overall service quality.
The launch complements a wider upgrade programme that includes road repairs, electrical improvements, staff‑lounge refurbishments, CT‑machine servicing, and 24‑hour operations at the St. Joseph Enhanced Health Centre, underscoring NCRHA’s commitment to a safer, more accessible healthcare environment.
