A routine closing shift at a casino on Lower High Street in San Fernando turned into a nightmare just before 10 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, when two armed men in full camouflage clothing ambushed the workers. The suspects arrived in a white Suzuki, parked a few metres away, and watched the premises for an opening. As the casino’s gates were about to lock, they emerged from the vehicle, confronted the staff, and announced a robbery, demanding cash. During the tense encounter, a mother was forced to shield her infant from the gunmen.
The attackers seized a bag containing more than $17,000 and then sped away in the waiting Suzuki. Police now believe the robbers are bona‑fide members of the Defence Force, suggesting an inside job. No injuries were reported among staff or customers, but the incident has left the local community shaken.
Investigators are working to identify the suspects and trace their possible connections to the Defence Force. The casino has yet to release a statement about security protocols or future precautions.
