A police officer has been charged with possession of ammunition following a targeted operation by the Central Division. The operation, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Suzette Martin and Assistant Commissioner of Police Remy, was spearheaded by Superintendent Glodon and supervised by ASP Mark Hernandez. Officers from the Central Division Operations Unit and Task Force conducted the field operations.
On the evening of August 17th, 2026, officers intercepted a black Nissan Sylphy on the Southern Main Road in Couva. The vehicle’s occupant, identified as PC Avinash Kussie, was off duty at the time. During the search, officers allegedly discovered a black plastic bag containing ten rounds of 9mm ammunition. PC Kussie was subsequently detained and transported to the Chaguanas Police Station.
The ammunition was meticulously marked, photographed, and packaged for evidential purposes, while the vehicle was secured for further examination. Searches conducted at Kussie’s residence and his locker at the Couva Police Station yielded no illegal items.
Following a thorough investigation, a file was submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on August 24th, 2026. The next day, the DPP instructed that a charge be filed against PC Kussie for possession of ammunition.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has reiterated its commitment to accountability, stating that no officer is above the law. The integrity of the service relies on public confidence, and the TTPS will continue to investigate and charge any officer found in breach of the law, ensuring that justice is served without exception.
