In a significant recovery effort, police in Arima have successfully seized a firearm and a substantial quantity of ammunition. This operation was conducted as part of the ongoing Operation R.E.S.O.L.U.T.E Shield, aimed at curbing illegal firearm activities in the region.
The coordinated effort took place on the night of Wednesday, August 19, 2026, between 9 pm and midnight. Officers from both the North Central Division Task Force (NCDTF) and Northern North Division Task Force (NNDTF) carried out the operation based on intelligence reports.
During the search in a bushy area located between Unity Ville and Andrew Lane, Arima, officers discovered a purple backpack. Inside the bag was a plastic bag containing a revolver and three rounds of .38 ammunition. Further inspection led to the discovery of nineteen rounds of 5.56 ammunition, carefully wrapped in plastic.
The operation was initiated by Snr Supt. Gift and coordinated by a team including Supt Jaikaran, Asp Bharath, Insp. Ramdial, and Ag.Sgt Bedase, with direct supervision by Ag/Cpl Simon. Their concerted efforts were further supported by officers from the Arouca Police Station and Arouca CID.
This operation marks a critical step in the ongoing efforts to reduce illegal firearms in the area. Investigations are still ongoing to determine the source and intended use of the recovered items.
