Trinidad Records Hottest Day of the Year as Temperatures Reach 33°C
Trinidad experienced its hottest day of the year on Monday, with the official maximum temperature at Piarco reaching 33°C, as intense sunshine, high humidity and Saharan dust combined to create uncomfortable conditions across much of the island.
The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service had forecast generally hot, sunny and hazy weather, noting that while temperatures would climb to 33°C, humidity would make conditions feel even hotter for many residents. Mild concentrations of Saharan dust also contributed to hazy skies and reduced air quality.
Across the country, many residents sought relief indoors or in air-conditioned spaces as the afternoon heat intensified. The high temperatures increased the risk of heat exhaustion and dehydration, particularly for outdoor workers, the elderly, young children and people with underlying medical conditions.
Health officials continue to encourage the public to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day, wear light-coloured clothing and seek shade whenever possible.
While isolated afternoon showers remain possible in some areas, forecasters expect generally hot conditions to continue over the coming days, with temperatures remaining above seasonal averages.
