Homicide investigators have seized a police station diary containing an account from a constable who witnessed the fatal attack on attorney Taradath Singh in Charlieville, according to the Sunday Express.

The newspaper reported that the officer’s account is among the witness information being examined as detectives seek to identify the gunman responsible for Singh’s October 27 killing. Senior homicide investigators told the newspaper that, as of Friday, no suspects were in custody.

Singh, 53, of Penn Trace, Enterprise, was shot shortly after leaving the Power House Gym at the corner of Caroni Savannah Road and ASJA Avenue. Investigators believe the attack was carefully planned, the Express reported.

According to the account recorded in the Chaguanas Police Station diary, the constable said he had been driving to obtain a meal when his Toyota Hilux developed mechanical problems. He stopped on John Peter Road Extension in Charlieville and saw Singh, whom he knew, walking along Caroni Savannah Road.

The diary entry said Singh casually greeted the officer before walking away. The constable subsequently saw Singh running onto the street where he was parked, pursued by a man carrying what appeared to be a firearm. He reported hearing Singh’s voice and several loud explosions.

The officer said he was unarmed and drove away because he feared for his safety. According to the report, he contacted emergency services, later reported the incident and informed his shift supervisor. Homicide sources told the Express that investigators subsequently seized the diary containing his account.

The constable was among several people questioned during the early stages of the investigation. The newspaper reported that no one had been detained in connection with the killing.

Singh had served as a police officer before entering private practice as an attorney. He had also survived a previous attempt on his life, according to the Express.

The newspaper further reported that detectives were examining intelligence about a possible connection to the October 28 killings of Couva spa owner Kavita Deosaran, 55, and customer Cheryl Dixon, 64. Sources cited similarities in the attackers’ reported clothing, including coveralls.

Police have not publicly confirmed a connection between the cases. The Express reported that investigators were weighing several theories and examining witness information before reaching conclusions about who carried out or ordered Singh’s killing.
