On Tuesday, November 3, 2026, thirty‑seven remanded inmates at Port of Spain Prison received baptism in the Remand Air‑Yard. The ceremony was part of a religious program run by the faith‑based group The Way of Holiness, which has been working with the prison service to provide spiritual guidance to those in custody.

Pastor Wilma Kelly had prepared the inmates over several weeks, incorporating baptismal teachings into the organisation’s regular religious sessions. When the day arrived, Pastor Cecil Augustus and Pastor Anthony Worrell led the baptisms, while coordinators Ms. Ruby West and Ms. Sybil Ramlal handled the event’s logistics.

The ceremony was attended by senior prison officials, including Commissioner Elvin Scanterbury, Deputy Commissioner R. Dass, Superintendent S. James, and Assistant Superintendent N. Ramjitsingh, underscoring the administration’s support for religious participation within the correctional environment.

The event highlighted the contribution of faith‑based organisations in fostering spiritual development and personal reflection among inmates. The Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service reiterated its commitment to freedom of worship and its ongoing collaboration with religious partners to facilitate appropriate religious activities for those in custody.
