On October 28, 2026, a 42‑year‑old resident of Brazil Village was sentenced to six years in prison after a judge‑only trial found him guilty of sexually touching a 10‑year‑old child. The High Court judge, Nalini Singh, delivered the sentence in the Central Division, underscoring the seriousness of protecting minors.

The accused was arrested on September 17, 2023, following an incident that took place between September 15 and 16, 2023. A sufficiency hearing on September 19, 2025, established a prima facie case, allowing the trial to proceed without a full jury.

Investigation of the case was led by PC Vijay Ramkissoon, formerly of the Special Victims Department, and supervised by ASP Seecharan and W/Insp. Jacob. Their work ensured that evidence was collected and presented in a timely manner.

During the trial, Justice Singh emphasized that the judiciary remains committed to safeguarding children and that the six‑year sentence serves as a deterrent against future offences.

Law enforcement officials praised the swift judicial process, noting that the case demonstrates the effectiveness of the criminal justice system in addressing sexual offences against minors.

The sentencing reaffirms the community’s demand for accountability and the protection of vulnerable youth, sending a clear message that such conduct will not be tolerated.
