Habitat for Humanity Trinidad and Tobago intends to triple its local impact over the next three years, expanding its work with families and communities while strengthening its resilience initiatives. The ambition was outlined by Eugene Tiah, chairman of the organisation’s Capital Campaign Cabinet, during a volunteer painting activity at a starter home intended to provide secure housing for ten people. Tiah put the cost of that home at $380,000. According to TTT’s report, Tiah said Habitat’s local work had broadened beyond house construction to include resilience, advocacy and community strengthening. He linked that approach to the needs of communities where flooding, high winds and other climate-related hazards damage homes and disrupt lives. The proposed expansion would reach more families and communities across Trinidad and Tobago. Tiah said achieving it would require partnerships and sustained support from across society. Citibank (Trinidad and Tobago) Limited also highlighted its involvement. Its head of internal audit, Rozette Krystal Maharaj, said support through the Citi Foundation’s Global Innovation Challenge and the Settled Strong Resilience Initiative had helped translate the partnership into practical work. Maharaj reported that the resilience initiative had repaired or constructed nearly 20 homes, mobilised more than 150 volunteers and generated 500 service hours. The local ambition comes as Habitat for Humanity International marks its 50th anniversary in 2026. For the Trinidad and Tobago organisation, the next three years represent a proposed expansion of both its housing work and its efforts to help communities withstand the hazards affecting their homes.
