Tobago Carnival 2026 is targeting 60,000 visitors, with the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) working to ensure adequate infrastructure to support the influx. Speaking at a stakeholder press conference, THA Secretary for Tourism, Antiquities and Creative Industries Zorisha Hackett confirmed that discussions are underway with utility providers to guarantee stable water, electricity, and internet connectivity during the festival.

The Met Office’s recent drought warning for Tobago through December 2026 has made water supply a critical concern. Hackett assured that the THA is taking steps to prevent disruptions, stating: ‘What we want to do is ensure that we have water on the island, electricity—[that] it does not fluctuate in a way that hampers [the event].’

This year’s Carnival, running from October 30 to November 1, will cost TT$12 million, with outstanding festival debt reduced from over TT$29 million to just under TT$5 million. Hackett noted that past debts had forced difficult spending decisions, including the cancellation of a jazz-style event this year. She also promised tighter financial controls to prevent future liabilities, inviting stakeholders to submit unpaid invoices post-Carnival for settlement.

A key focus for 2026 is promoting local performers and music, with organisers pushing to ensure the festival reflects Tobago’s culture rather than being dominated by outside acts. While Trinidad-based promoters will not face discrimination, the THA aims to highlight local talent.

Pan Trinbago’s Tobago arm will participate in Steelpan and Powder on Carnival Saturday night (October 31), with the event dedicated in tribute to calypso legend Slinger Francisco (Mighty Sparrow). Earlier, Pan Trinbago had threatened to boycott the festival over unpaid TT$1.7 million from 2025 but relented after receiving the outstanding funds.

Additionally, organisers announced plans for mud activation stations along the Carnival route, particularly in Roxborough, and an inaugural road march-style event to enhance the festival’s cultural experience.
