The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is taking road safety education directly to motorists, putting drivers in Tobago to the test with basic questions about the rules of the road. In Episode 7 of its “Back to Basics – Road Safety Quiz – Tobago Edition”, PC Nicholls approaches motorists and challenges them with Highway Code questions designed to determine how much they still remember from their driving tests. The initiative combines education with a light-hearted roadside quiz, with motorists receiving rewards when they correctly answer questions. According to the TTPS, most of the participating drivers passed the test, although the exercise also highlighted that some motorists had forgotten basic road rules. The campaign is intended to reinforce the importance of knowing and following the Highway Code rather than treating the information as something needed only to obtain a driving permit. The TTPS stressed that knowledge of road rules can play an important role in preventing collisions and saving lives. The Tobago edition also features social media personality Chocolate Papi, with the campaign using an entertaining format to encourage motorists and viewers to test their own knowledge. While the questions may appear simple, the exercise carries a serious message: drivers are expected to understand the rules governing their behaviour whenever they use the nation’s roads. By taking the quiz directly to motorists, the TTPS is encouraging drivers to revisit the basics and consider whether they could still correctly answer the same Highway Code questions they encountered when learning to drive.
