Several people gathered outside the Government Treasury Building on St Vincent Street, Port-of-Spain, on Friday after they were reportedly unable to cash book grant and other government cheques.
The group assembled outside the building as cheque holders sought to access money issued through government programmes and other payments.
Among those affected were recipients of the 2026 School Supplies and Book Grant, with some turning up hoping to have their cheques encashed.
The situation comes days after the previously announced September 21 timeline for payment of outstanding approved School Supplies and Book Grant applications.
The Treasury Division is responsible for providing cashing facilities for government cheques, including through its General Ledger Services operations.
It was not immediately clear what prevented the cheques from being cashed on Friday or when those affected would be able to access their funds.
