A woman who says a holiday in Tobago left her longing to return has shared how she eventually moved back to the island, attempted to build a new life and later returned to Germany where she faced the possibility that she was pregnant.
In Episode 3 of her “My Soul Contract with Paradise” series, she recalled spending two months in Germany after her Tobago holiday while experiencing intense homesickness for the island.
She eventually returned despite not knowing exactly where she would live or how she would support herself.
A man she refers to as “Rastaman” collected her from the airport and took her to accommodation he had arranged. She recalled being shocked by the condition of the apartment, describing an old refrigerator, limited kitchen equipment, unfinished flooring, a toilet without a seat and a shower without a proper shower head.
Much of the apartment had also been painted green, including the walls, doors and even light switches.
Despite her initial reaction, she said waking up the following morning to Tobago’s lush surroundings changed her outlook. Determined to make the situation work, she eventually purchased and installed a toilet seat and shower head herself.
She said her relationship with “Rastaman” developed during the following weeks while she continued enjoying life in Tobago.
However, her immigration status soon became a concern.
She said she had travelled on a one-way ticket and initially did not realise she would need to make arrangements to extend her stay. After people she met at a beach warned her about the issue, she visited immigration in Scarborough.
She recalled being questioned about her reasons for remaining in Tobago, where she was staying and her relationship with “Rastaman.”
According to her account, she was eventually told that the next time she sought a visa extension, she would need to be married or obtain a work permit.
She did not want to get married and instead began looking for work, approaching hotels, guest houses and restaurants. However, she said she was unable to secure employment and eventually undertook an internship at a graphic design operation in Scarborough.
As her permitted stay came to an end and money became increasingly limited, she decided to return to Germany. Her plan was to work as a waitress for a season, save money and eventually return to Tobago.
By that stage, she said “Rastaman” had already been raising the possibility of marriage, but she maintained that she wanted a ring before considering it.
Shortly after arriving in Germany, however, another unexpected development emerged.
While meeting her friend Vanessa for coffee, she mentioned that her expected period had not arrived and that she was experiencing an unusual feeling in her stomach.
Vanessa suggested that she could be pregnant.
She initially dismissed the possibility, saying she believed she had been safe, but her friend encouraged her to take a pregnancy test.
She eventually went into the café’s bathroom and took the test, watching as the result began to develop.
The episode, titled “I Went Back to Tobago… And Came Home Pregnant,” marks another unexpected turn in a journey that began with what was supposed to be a short holiday in Tobago and developed into an attempt to build a new life on the island.
