Aaron Wilson recovered from a group-stage defeat to win the Division 1 singles title at the Guaracara Table Tennis Club Open Tournament in Marabella, while Nirav Basant secured the Division 2 crown.

According to the Trinidad Express, Wilson defeated Everton Sorzano 6-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-9 in the Division 1 final. The Carenage Blasters player had to come from behind against his D’Abadie Youths/Maloney Tigers opponent to complete his title run.

Wilson’s tournament began with an upset. Arima Hawks player Wayne Oudit defeated the 2026 national champion 11-6, 12-10, 7-11, 6-11, 11-9, leaving Wilson second in group two. Oudit also beat GTTC’s Wesley Dookhoo to take the group’s top position and the second seed in the knockout draw.

Another surprise came in group three, where ARK Crusaders player Yannic Lewis defeated Nikoli Barbour-Alexis in five games. Lewis then beat Che Pierre Fournillier to secure first place in the group, although his run ended against Isa Mohammed in the round of 16.

Wilson faced top seed Malik Gopaul in the quarterfinals, winning 11-4, 9-11, 11-4, 11-6. His semifinal proved more demanding: national under-15 player Mateo Mollineau took the first and third games before Wilson recovered to prevail 6-11, 11-3, 5-11, 11-6, 11-8.

Sorzano reached the final by overcoming Mohammed in a five-game quarterfinal and then beating another national under-15 player, Daniel Bhim, in straight games. Bhim had earlier eliminated Oudit in the quarterfinals.

Wilson’s eventual victory repeated his success in the A1/A2 Division at July’s Guaracara Open Friendly Table Tennis Tournament.

Basant also followed a July title with another championship. The ARK Crusaders player, who won the earlier tournament’s B/C Division, defeated Renegades player Jared Simon 11-7, 11-4, 11-7 in the GTTC Open Division 2 final. Basant had beaten Satash Jodhan in the semifinals, while Simon advanced past Kenny Second.

The Division 2 field included Basant’s pre-teen brothers Aarav and Rivaan, alongside other young competitors. In Division 3, Valley Knockers player Tevon Constantine claimed the title with an 11-7, 11-6, 11-5 victory over Cunupia Crew’s Ishta Ramdatt.
