Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister Kamla Persad‑Bissessar took the stage at the United Nations General Assembly to outline her country’s priorities as it prepares to serve on the Security Council.
During her address, she endorsed United States President Donald Trump’s proposal to rename artificial intelligence as “Super Intelligence” (SI), indicating the nation’s readiness to adopt the new terminology.
AI and global security had been a central theme in Trinidad and Tobago’s campaign for a seat on the Council, and Persad‑Bissessar highlighted both the risks and opportunities of emerging technology.
She warned of cyberattacks, disinformation, deepfakes, autonomous weapons, and threats to critical infrastructure, while also stressing that AI can aid conflict prevention, early warning systems, peacekeeping, and civilian protection.
Persad‑Bissessar pledged that Trinidad and Tobago will advocate for policies that protect international security without stifling innovation, development, and economic opportunity, and called for developing countries to have a meaningful role in shaping the rules of the new technological era.
