Ghana and Trinidad and Tobago have discussed new investment and expanded oil and gas partnerships during a meeting between their foreign ministers, according to a report by 3news.

Ghana’s Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa met Trinidad and Tobago’s Foreign Minister Sean S.M. Sobers during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Antigua and Barbuda. The report described the discussions as positive, identifying investment and energy cooperation as areas of focus. It did not provide details of specific projects, investment amounts or signed energy agreements.

The engagement was also accompanied by an announcement about Ghana’s diplomatic presence in Trinidad and Tobago. According to the report, Ghana plans to commission a new High Commission in Trinidad next year, with William Anani Abotsi serving as its first high commissioner to the country.

Ablakwa’s discussions with Sobers formed part of a wider programme of engagement with Caribbean partners at the Commonwealth meeting. The report also said Ghana was finalising air services agreements with Caribbean countries to work towards direct flights once the ongoing revival of Ghana Airways was completed. It did not identify a confirmed Trinidad and Tobago route or a launch date.

For the bilateral relationship, the developments outlined in the report are the proposed expansion of investment and energy cooperation and the planned opening of Ghana’s High Commission. Details of individual oil and gas ventures, and a timetable for implementing them, were not supplied.
