Minister of Trade Welcomes Caribbean Music Community to Trinidad and Tobago
Minister of Trade, Investment and Tourism Senator Satyakama “Kama” Maharaj welcomed artistes, creators and music industry representatives to Trinidad and Tobago on Friday as activities began for the 2026 Caribbean Music Awards.
Maharaj joined guests at the official Welcome Reception and Network Experience, which brought members of the regional entertainment industry together ahead of Saturday’s main awards ceremony at the National Academy for the Performing Arts in Port of Spain.
The gathering marked the start of a three-day celebration of Caribbean music and culture.
This year is particularly significant as Trinidad and Tobago becomes the first Caribbean country to host the Caribbean Music Awards, following the event’s previous three editions in Brooklyn, New York.
The awards weekend continues with Saturday’s main ceremony at NAPA before concluding on Sunday with the Stars and Steel Pan Concert and Awards.

Trinidad and Tobago has officially welcomed the Caribbean music community as celebrations begin for the 2026 Caribbean Music Awards.
Minister of Trade, Investment and Tourism Senator Satyakama “Kama” Maharaj joined artistes, creators and music industry representatives on Friday at the official Welcome Reception and Network Experience.
The gathering opened a three-day celebration bringing Caribbean talent together in Trinidad and Tobago ahead of the main awards ceremony.
This year marks a major milestone for the event, as Trinidad and Tobago becomes the first Caribbean country to host the Caribbean Music Awards.
The previous three editions were staged in Brooklyn, New York, making this the first time the awards have been brought directly to the region they were created to celebrate.
The main ceremony takes place on Saturday at the National Academy for the Performing Arts in Port of Spain.
Activities continue on Sunday with the Stars and Steel Pan Concert and Awards, closing a weekend showcasing Caribbean music, culture and creative talent on home soil.
