Former Education Minister Questions Book Grant Rollout After Informal Parent Poll
Former Education Minister Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly is questioning the rollout of the Government’s school book grant after an informal poll she conducted suggested that the overwhelming majority of respondents had not received the promised assistance.
Gadsby-Dolly said approximately 145 out of 150 parents who responded indicated that they, or someone they knew, had not yet received the grant.
She raised the issue as the new school term gets underway, questioning when the assistance would be distributed and criticising the current Education Ministry over the situation.
In a social media post accompanying the video, Gadsby-Dolly described the situation as a “Book Grant Fiasco” and claimed that many children remained at home awaiting the promised assistance.
She also accused the Education Minister of incompetence and said the education system was in “severe crisis”. Those statements represent Gadsby-Dolly’s political criticism of the Government and are not presented as independently established facts.
The poll itself was informal and should not be treated as a scientific or nationally representative survey. However, the responses highlighted concerns among some parents about the timing of the grant and whether assistance would arrive after classes had already begun.
Gadsby-Dolly, who previously served as Minister of Education, is now publicly pressing the Government for answers over the programme’s implementation and the timeline for outstanding payments.
For affected parents, the central question remains when the promised school book assistance will actually reach families.
