In a shocking incident on Tuesday night, an off-duty police officer was ambushed and killed in Kelly Village, Caroni. The victim, identified as Constable Douglas, was sitting in his white Nissan Tiida near the Rainbow Supermarket when he was approached by three armed men. The attack took place shortly after 11:00 pm.
Constable Douglas, who had dedicated 20 years to the Four Roads Police Station in the Western Division, was fatally shot during the ambush. Reports indicate that one of the attackers was also wounded during the incident. It remains unclear whether the wound was inflicted by Constable Douglas or resulted from crossfire among the attackers.
After the shooting, the suspects fled the scene, taking Constable Douglas’s licensed firearm with them. The wounded suspect was later dropped off at the Arima General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Meanwhile, the vehicle used by the suspects was discovered abandoned in the Maloney area.
The tragic incident has left a deep mark on the community and the police force, given Constable Douglas’s long-standing service. Investigations are ongoing as authorities seek to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the attack.
