An escaped detainee from the Immigration Detention Centre is back in police custody following a successful intelligence-led operation by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service. The arrest occurred during Operation R.E.S.O.L.U.T.E. SHIELD, conducted in the Eastern District of the North Central Division between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.
The exercise was initiated by Senior Superintendent Gift, coordinated by ASP Pierre and Inspector Ramdial, and supervised by Corporal Forde. Officers of the North Central Division Task Force (East) were supported by members of the TTPS K9 Unit.
At approximately 5:30 p.m., officers acting on intelligence proceeded to Hilda Trace, Arouca, where they conducted covert surveillance on a galvanized structure along the roadway. During the operation, officers observed a man approaching the location and, based on prior intelligence and positive identification, executed a tactical intervention that resulted in his arrest.
The suspect was identified as Edinson Maltin Alcala Larosa, of Thomas Trace, Arouca. Subsequent enquiries confirmed that he was the individual who had escaped from the Immigration Detention Centre on Saturday, July 18, 2026. He was taken into police custody and remains detained as investigations continue.
