President Kangaloo and First Gentleman Receive Warm Welcome at Divali Nagar Cultural Celebrations

President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Her Excellency Christine Carla Kangaloo, ORTT, and First Gentleman Kerwyn Garcia, SC, were warmly welcomed to Divali Nagar on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, as the annual celebration of Indian culture and heritage continued.

The President and First Gentleman were greeted upon arrival by National Council of Indian Culture (NCIC) President Dr Surujdeo Mangaroo and First Vice President Professor Arvind Singh, who were accompanied by their spouses.

The Office of the President shared photographs of the occasion on its official Instagram account, highlighting the ceremonial welcome extended to the country's Head of State.

Earlier in the evening, the NCIC hosted a dinner for members of its board and invited guests ahead of the main cultural programme.

Following the gathering, the President and First Gentleman made their way to the Divali Nagar main stage, where an evening of entertainment, competition and cultural expression was scheduled.

Among the featured activities were the Trin India Youth Champ and the Meena House Dance Competition, providing opportunities for participants to showcase their talents while celebrating the traditions and artistic expressions associated with Trinidad and Tobago's Indian heritage.

Celebrating Culture and National Unity

Divali Nagar has long been an important fixture on Trinidad and Tobago's cultural calendar, bringing together communities through music, dance, traditional cuisine, religious displays and educational exhibitions.

Organised by the NCIC, the annual event plays a significant role in preserving and promoting East Indian cultural traditions while welcoming people from across the country's diverse communities.

The presence of President Kangaloo and First Gentleman Garcia added a ceremonial dimension to the evening's proceedings, reflecting the national significance of the celebration.

The event also provided an opportunity to recognise the contributions of cultural organisations, performers and volunteers who work to ensure that these traditions continue to be passed on to younger generations.

The Office of the President documented the visit through its social media platforms, with its Instagram update receiving 386 likes and two comments at the time the engagement figures were recorded.

As Divali Nagar 2026 continues, the celebration remains a showcase of Trinidad and Tobago's multicultural identity, highlighting the importance of cultural preservation, artistic development and national togetherness.
