Police have intensified operations in Central Trinidad as investigations continue into the murder of attorney-at-law Taradath Singh in Charlieville and the killings of Kavita Deosaran and Cheryl Dixon at a spa in Couva, Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander said. Addressing the House of Representatives on Friday, Alexander said the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service had increased intelligence-led operations, targeted patrols and investigative efforts to identify those responsible. He declined to disclose specific operational plans. Asked whether police had made any arrests, the minister did not confirm an arrest status. He said releasing information could undermine the investigations by leading other people who might be involved to believe that a particular individual was assisting police. He maintained that the matters remained under investigation. Alexander also cited a 46 per cent decrease in crime and maintained that robberies and home invasions had not increased. The report did not specify the period or comparison underlying that figure. Separately, he said the Police Service was holding discussions with local banking institutions about potential threats to customers conducting financial transactions. He highlighted the risks associated with withdrawing large sums in ordinary banking areas, where activity could draw other people's attention. Business owners and members of the public were also urged to take precautions when conducting financial transactions. Alexander's parliamentary response provided an outline of the police approach in Central, while leaving operational details and the status of any arrests undisclosed.
