From Trinidad’s DJ Scene to Canadian Politics, Intellect Live Campaigns to Become Milton Mayor

DJ Intellect Live, a familiar name to many in Trinidad and Tobago’s entertainment industry, is now seeking political office in Canada, contesting the mayoral election in Milton, Ontario.

His real name is Chéz Amun, and while many Trinidadians may remember him from the local DJ circuit, his career has also included music education, business and youth mentorship.

Amun has longstanding ties to Trinidad and Tobago. His mother is Trinidadian and his father is Nigerian, while he grew up in the Vancouver area of Canada.

His involvement in Trinidad’s entertainment industry dates back more than a decade. A December 2009 Trinidad Guardian report identified Intellect Live among the DJs performing at a J’Ouvert band launch at the Naparima Bowl Grounds in San Fernando.

Beyond entertaining crowds, Amun also helped aspiring DJs develop their skills.

In 2019, Trinidad-based music education organisation DianJen identified him as an experienced industry practitioner associated with its professional DJ training programme.

He is also the founder and mentor of Intellectuals TT, an initiative focused on teaching DJ techniques and music production.

Now, Amun is bringing his experience in entertainment, business and working with young people into the political arena.

He is among ten candidates contesting the October 26, 2026, mayoral election in Milton, a town in Ontario, Canada.

His campaign focuses on community involvement, youth employment, responsible development and stronger relationships between residents and local government.

Speaking about his plans, Amun said residents should have greater involvement in decisions concerning development projects, particularly when those projects could affect their neighbourhoods.

He believes the mayor should serve as a stronger voice for the community when negotiating with developers.

Amun has proposed annual town meetings to give residents opportunities to discuss development plans and other important municipal issues before decisions are finalised.

He has also questioned why some condominium developments appear to exceed established building-height restrictions, although he has not provided evidence establishing that those buildings violated their approved planning permissions.

The mayoral hopeful maintains that he is not against development but believes Milton needs smarter growth and greater transparency.

Youth employment is another priority.

Amun wants to establish stronger partnerships between schools and local businesses to create summer jobs for young adults and provide opportunities to keep them engaged during the winter months.

His wider campaign proposals include improved public transportation, additional support for families and expanded youth programmes.

Amun faces nine other mayoral candidates, including incumbent Gord Krantz, who has served as Milton’s mayor since 1980.

For Trinidadians who remember him behind the turntables as DJ Intellect Live, his latest venture represents a different chapter in a career that has spanned music, education and community involvement.

The entertainer once known for performing at local events is now asking voters in Canada to consider him for one of the country’s municipal leadership positions.
