Prince William has revealed that he once wanted to become a DJ, during a rare appearance on the BBC’s Graham Norton Show to promote his Earthshot Prize.

The Prince of Wales also told host Graham Norton that he had wanted to join the police when he was younger. His ambitions behind the decks came with a modest assessment of his musical abilities: he said he “wasn’t very good”.

According to an AFP report published by the Jamaica Observer, the episode is scheduled to air on Friday evening. William appeared alongside actresses Cate Blanchett and Hannah Waddingham and conservationist Robert Irwin, who are all involved in the environmental prize.

The BBC reported that his arrival as a surprise guest drew cheers and gasps from the audience. Images released ahead of the broadcast showed him laughing on the programme’s sofa.

William is due to present the Earthshot Prize in Mumbai on November 17. Launched in 2020, the prize supports initiatives addressing environmental crises, including climate change. Organisers said this year’s winners would each receive £1 million to help expand the impact of their solutions.

The conversation also touched on William’s viewing habits. He spoke about his family’s enjoyment of The Celebrity Traitors and his admiration for Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. The appearance combined those personal details with publicity for the forthcoming environmental awards.
