Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is expected to join Tobago Chief Secretary Farley Augustine on Tuesday, October 13, for the official opening of the new terminal at ANR Robinson International Airport. Augustine confirmed the scheduled opening during a press conference at the Red House following the national budget presentation on Monday. He described the occasion as an event of generational importance for Tobago. The Chief Secretary said the new terminal represented a major development for the island’s infrastructure and tourism industry. Augustine also highlighted the involvement of the Tobago House of Assembly in preparing the facility for its opening. According to him, the THA was allowed to contribute to the terminal’s interior design and installation of features intended to reflect and support Tobago’s tourism product. He said several of those additions were financed directly by the Assembly. The Chief Secretary explained that members of the THA had participated in visits and discussions concerning the facility’s development and preparation. Augustine said the official opening would provide an opportunity for the island and central governments to demonstrate cooperation on a major infrastructure project.
