Government Announces $250 Monthly Increase in Senior Citizens, Disability and Public Assistance Grants

The Trinidad and Tobago Government has announced a $250 monthly increase in senior citizens’ grants, public assistance grants and disability assistance grants as part of the 2027 National Budget.

Finance Minister Davendranath Tancoo announced the measures during his budget presentation in Parliament on Monday, October 12, 2026.

Under the proposed increases, senior citizens will receive an additional $250 per month, providing further financial support to elderly citizens.

Public assistance grants will also increase by $250 across each payment tier, benefiting approximately 13,637 recipients.

Additionally, disability assistance grants for both adults and children will rise by $250 monthly, with an estimated 28,000 recipients expected to benefit.

The Finance Minister said the measures were intended to put more money directly into the pockets of vulnerable citizens and provide relief from rising living expenses.

The increases form part of the Persad-Bissessar administration’s wider social support measures outlined in the 2027 Budget.

An implementation date for the revised payments was not specified in the excerpt of the budget presentation.
