Acclaimed Icelandic author Ragnar Jónasson, best known for his internationally successful crime novels, has taken on a new role as a special adviser at the Reykjavík-based law firm LOGOS. The appointment marks a return to his legal roots, combining his extensive experience in corporate advisory with his ongoing literary career.
Jónasson, who holds a law degree from the University of Iceland, has previously held senior positions in the financial sector, including roles as chief legal officer at GAMMA, head of the office of Kaupthing’s winding-up committee, and corporate adviser at Arion Bank. His legal expertise has also been shared as a part-time lecturer at Reykjavík University’s Faculty of Law for over 15 years.
In a statement from LOGOS, managing director Jón Elvar Guðmundsson praised Jónasson’s “thorough understanding of legal advisory services and the needs of individuals and businesses,” describing his financial sector experience as particularly valuable. Jónasson’s new role will focus on business development projects in collaboration with LOGOS’s partners.
Despite his legal background, Jónasson’s recent years have been dominated by writing. His books, which include the popular Darkness Series, have been published in 35 countries, earning him a global following. He has promoted his work through numerous events and media appearances worldwide. However, he has maintained his legal knowledge, ensuring his transition back into the field remains seamless.
“Writing and the travel associated with it have taken up most of my time in recent years,” Jónasson stated in the LOGOS announcement. “But I’ve always kept my legal knowledge up to date. I greatly appreciate the opportunity to work on specific legal projects alongside my writing.” The dual career reflects his ability to balance creativity with professional expertise, offering a unique perspective to LOGOS’s client base.
