Trinidad and Tobago medical doctor Dr Clayanne Knott has earned international recognition after receiving the Top Medic Award at Queen Mary University of London for her research in Sports and Exercise Medicine.
The achievement was celebrated by the British High Commission in Port of Spain on October 9, 2026, which congratulated Dr Knott, one of Trinidad and Tobago’s 2025 Chevening Scholars, on her academic success.
Dr Knott received the recognition at the university’s Sport and Exercise Medicine Conference, where she presented research examining the lived experiences of parents of children with cerebral palsy and their perspectives on physical activity.
Her research highlights an important area of healthcare, particularly the experiences of families supporting children with disabilities and the role physical activity can play in their lives.
Dr Knott pursued a Master of Science degree in Sports and Exercise Medicine at Queen Mary University of London through the prestigious Chevening Scholarship programme, funded by the United Kingdom Government.
Before travelling to the UK, she was already actively involved in sports medicine and athlete welfare in Trinidad and Tobago, providing pitch-side medical support, teaching life-saving skills and advocating for improved athlete care.
Her passion for sport developed during her childhood in Tunapuna, where cricket and football helped shape her interest in combining medicine with physical activity.
Reflecting on her achievement, Dr Knott expressed appreciation for the academic support she received, including guidance from her research supervisors and lecturers.
The British High Commission praised her accomplishment and expressed optimism about the contribution her growing expertise could make to sports and exercise medicine in Trinidad and Tobago.
Her success represents another encouraging example of Trinidad and Tobago’s medical professionals gaining international recognition while developing specialised knowledge that could benefit healthcare, athletes and communities at home.
