On Tuesday, 6 October, Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Phillip Watts presented more than $10 million in grant funding to athletes and sporting organisations at the Hasely Crawford Stadium. The ceremony marked a significant investment in the country’s sporting future.
The funds will support 12 elite athletes, 50 individual athletes, 50 sport‑serving bodies and five national governing bodies. They are earmarked for training, travel, equipment, coaching and programme development, providing a comprehensive boost to athletes’ preparation and performance.
During the presentation, Minister Watts encouraged athletes to remain focused on their goals while urging organisations to ensure the responsible use of the funding. He reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to athlete development, the strengthening of sporting institutions and the pursuit of excellence in sport.
The event underscored the government’s dedication to fostering a robust sports ecosystem, with stakeholders from across the national sports community in attendance. The grant is expected to elevate Trinidad and Tobago’s competitiveness on the international stage.
