A circulating WhatsApp exchange has introduced startling new claims into the case of missing Tobago toddler Angelo Tobias-Plaza, with a woman heard insisting that the child is still alive even though his stepfather is already before the court charged with his murder. The material, now being widely shared on TikTok, appears to contain both written messages and voice notes exchanged during a heated argument over Angelo’s disappearance. One detail in the written exchange could be particularly significant. Before the voice-note response, a message sent to the account states that Angelo was an innocent child and accuses the recipient and others of allowing their “evil brother” to murder him. That wording appears to suggest that the person receiving the message was being addressed as a sibling of the man being accused. What happens next adds another layer. In the responding voice note, a woman repeatedly refers to the person being accused as “my son” while strongly rejecting the allegation that Angelo was killed. This raises the possibility that the woman speaking may be the mother of the man being defended, potentially responding through another relative’s phone or social media account. TG News has not independently established the identities of the people participating in the private exchange and cannot confirm that interpretation as fact. What can be established, however, is what the woman actually says. She repeatedly insists that Angelo is alive. “The child is not dead,” she says. She goes on to claim that the child’s mother is hiding him “in town” and alleges that other people have seen Angelo. “The child alive,” she repeats during the exchange. The woman also suggests that further information is about to emerge, telling the person she is addressing that “the news will come out just now” and that everybody will eventually know what happened. She additionally questions why people who allegedly know the child has been seen have not taken that information to police. Those statements go considerably further than simply expressing hope that Angelo survived. They amount to specific allegations that the toddler is alive, that his whereabouts are being concealed and that other people allegedly have knowledge of him being alive. No evidence supporting those claims is presented in the circulating material. The statements are especially significant because Angelo’s stepfather, Shannon Miller, has already been formally charged with the toddler’s murder. Police said Miller was charged following a review of evidence gathered during the investigation and legal advice that there was sufficient evidence to proceed with criminal charges. Angelo has never been recovered. Miller has not been convicted, and the murder allegation remains before the court. His matter was adjourned to November 30, 2026. Angelo’s biological father, Antonio Plaza, is a different person and is not the man facing the murder charge. Earlier reporting identified Plaza as Angelo’s father and Miller as the boyfriend of Angelo’s mother and the child’s stepfather. Angelo disappeared from his home at Cambridge Trace, Goodwood, Tobago, on May 11, triggering extensive searches involving police, emergency personnel, search and rescue teams and other agencies. Despite searches on land, along the coastline and at locations including the Studley Park landfill, the toddler has not been recovered. There had already been hope within Angelo’s family that he might still be alive. His paternal grandmother, Meena Plaza, publicly expressed that belief during the early stages of the search, saying she believed her grandson was alive and wanted authorities to find him. However, there is no evidence establishing that she is the woman speaking in the newly circulated voice note. The new recording is also different in one important respect. The woman is not merely saying she believes or hopes Angelo is alive. She appears to claim knowledge. She alleges that he is alive. She alleges that he is being hidden. She claims people have seen him. And while defending someone she repeatedly calls “my son”, she suggests the truth will eventually emerge. There has been no official confirmation that Angelo has been located alive or that police have verified any of the allegations contained in the circulating recording. The voice note therefore cannot be treated as evidence that Angelo is alive. However, if the woman genuinely possesses information about Angelo’s whereabouts, knows who allegedly saw him, or can substantiate her assertion that the toddler is being hidden, those statements could potentially be relevant to investigators. The unusual sequence of the conversation also leaves another unanswered question: who exactly is the woman making these claims, and what is her relationship to the man she repeatedly describes as her son? For now, the recording remains an unverified but potentially significant development surrounding a case in which a man is facing a murder charge while the alleged victim has never been recovered.
