Trinidad and Tobago soca veteran Denise “Saucy Wow” Belfon has been honoured with a New York City proclamation recognising her longstanding contribution to soca music and Caribbean culture.
The recognition comes ahead of Trinidad and Tobago’s 64th Independence Day, which will be celebrated on August 31.
Belfon, widely known for her energetic performances and signature hit “Work,” has spent approximately three decades contributing to Trinidad and Tobago’s soca landscape.
Images shared following the presentation show Belfon holding the proclamation during the ceremony in New York.
Throughout her career, Belfon has helped carry soca beyond Trinidad and Tobago, with her music and distinctive performance style becoming familiar to audiences across the Caribbean and diaspora.
Her profile has also received renewed international attention through collaborations and musical connections involving international artistes, including Megan Thee Stallion, Shenseea and, more recently, Drake.
The proclamation adds another recognition to Belfon’s career as Trinidad and Tobago prepares to commemorate 64 years of Independence.
