In a series of successful police operations, two men have been arrested, and three firearms along with a quantity of ammunition have been seized in separate incidents in San Juan and Tobago. The operations were carried out by officers from the North Eastern and Tobago Divisions over the last 48 hours.
The first operation took place between 1:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, in the San Juan district. Acting on intelligence about an illegal firearm, officers conducted a search and discovered a Ruger P89 pistol and ten rounds of 9mm ammunition. During a subsequent search of a white Mercedes-Benz, a homemade shotgun and six 12-gauge cartridges were found, leading to the arrest of a 27-year-old man.
The operation in San Juan was spearheaded by W/Ag/Snr. Supt. Guy-Alleyne, Supt. Birch, and Ag/ASP Taylor, and was coordinated by Ag/Insp. Ramsingh under the supervision of W/Cpl Daniel. The officers’ prompt response to the intelligence received played a crucial role in the success of the operation.
In a separate incident on Sunday afternoon at Bacolet Point, Tobago, officers responded to intelligence about a firearm spotted along the seafront. Officers WPC Guy and PC Robley conducted a search and seized a black and grey pistol fitted with a magazine.
These operations highlight the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb illegal firearms in the region. Investigations are still ongoing as the police continue their enquiries into these matters.
