The Moruga community is mourning the loss of Martinez Martin Phillip, a beloved resident of Douglas Road, St. Mary’s Village. Known for his work at Watson Metal Works in Bois Jean Jean, Phillip’s passing has left a void among his family, friends, and former colleagues.

Phillip formed enduring friendships during his years at Watson Metal Works, most notably with Peter Watson. His deep ties within the community are evident as he leaves behind his daughter, Chelsea, as well as his sisters, Pearl Stoute, Merle Phillip, and Jocelyn Saunders. His brothers, Markie Johnson, affectionately known as ‘Cappa,’ and Felix Phillip, known as ‘Blues,’ also mourn his passing.

Family connections run deep for Phillip in Moruga, extending to the Phillip family in Moruga and the Johnson and Teesdale families of Mandingo Road. His departure is felt by many, including numerous nephews, nieces, and other relatives, alongside a wide circle of friends.

A funeral service to honor Phillip’s life is scheduled at St. Mary’s Seventh-day Adventist Church, commencing at 2 p.m. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Taylor Cemetery on Richard Douglas Road. During this time of bereavement, heartfelt condolences are extended to his family and friends.
