A late-night drive for a loaf of bread ended in tragedy for a Marabella family when 42-year-old Troy Sonilal lost control of his car and died in a crash along the Southern Main Road.

According to police reports, Sonilal was attempting to overtake traffic when his vehicle veered off the roadway and slammed into a metal gate and pipelines owned by Paria Trading Company Ltd. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 30-year-old nurse from Rio Claro, who was a passenger in the car, sustained minor injuries and was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital. Hospital officials confirmed she was in stable condition.

Sonilal’s mother said her son had left home to buy a loaf of bread and never returned. She described him as her only child, a kind and trouble-free man who was well-liked in the community.

Police are continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. No other vehicles were reported involved.
