The body of six-year-old Brithanny Palacios was recovered early Thursday morning from the rocky shorelines of Los Iros, Erin, after a migrant vessel capsized off the coast. The Hunters Search and Rescue Team, led by Captain Vallence Rambharat, discovered the child at approximately 7:22 am.
According to initial reports, the pirogue was carrying 29 individuals—23 adults and six infants—when it departed Los Iros Beach bound for Tucupita, Venezuela. The vessel overturned shortly after leaving shore, possibly after encountering rough sea conditions or striking a submerged object.
The tragedy has left several people missing, with at least one confirmed death. The Hunters Search and Rescue Team posted a photo of the deceased child on their Facebook page as part of their ongoing efforts to account for all passengers.
Captain Rambharat confirmed that search and recovery operations are being coordinated with local and international authorities. The incident highlights the perilous journeys undertaken by migrants attempting to cross the Gulf of Paria.
Authorities have not released the identities of the other passengers or provided an exact number of those still missing. The investigation into the cause of the capsizing is ongoing.
