A fire tore through a building on Diego Martin Main Road, opposite Covigne Road, on Tuesday afternoon, destroying a business and an apartment and claiming the life of a pet dog.
The blaze broke out around 4:00 pm on 21st July 2026, according to residents. Social media videos quickly spread showing thick smoke and flames consuming the structure as people scrambled to evacuate.
Before firefighters arrived, neighbours attempted to contain the flames using a garden hose, but the fire had already taken hold. The Fire Services responded and battled the blaze for several hours before finally bringing it under control. Crews remained at the scene until late Tuesday night.
The fire destroyed Supervalue Auto, a local business, and an apartment belonging to a woman. A pet dog also perished in the inferno, adding to the tragedy for those affected.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the fire. Investigations are ongoing.
