Carl Isom-McDaniel, a 65-year-old grandfather from Washington state, is making a recovery following a violent bison attack at Yellowstone National Park. The attack, which occurred near the Bridge Bay Campground on the evening of July 10, was caught on camera and subsequently went viral on social media.

Isom-McDaniel and his 13-year-old grandson were visiting the park when the incident took place. The pair had reportedly maintained a respectful distance from the bison when the animal became agitated and charged. Wildlife photographer Mike MacLeod captured the shocking moment, which shows the bison charging at McDaniel and launching him several feet into the air.

In a courageous act, MacLeod ceased recording to distract the bison, which allowed others to get to the injured man. McDaniel suffered multiple fractures and underwent surgery as a result of the attack. Yet, in spite of his injuries, he remained conscious and was primarily concerned about his grandson’s safety, who fortunately was unharmed.

The National Park Service has since confirmed the attack, taking the opportunity to remind visitors of the unpredictable nature of wild animals and the importance of maintaining a safe distance. This incident marks the second reported bison attack in Yellowstone in less than two weeks, serving as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of nature, even when visitors act responsibly.
