A joint operation targeting illegal cannabis cultivation on Thursday 2nd July, 2026, resulted in the destruction of $2.5 million worth of the illicit crop. The operation took place in the mountains off Wharf Trace, Maracas Valley, St. Joseph, within the Northern Division St. Joseph Policing District.
The Multi-agency Cannabis Suppression Exercise led to the burning of nine illegal cannabis fields spanning approximately 0.459 hectares. An estimated 8,048 fully grown cannabis trees, a camp, and 300 seedlings were destroyed, along with various pieces of equipment used for cannabis cultivation.
The operation was spearheaded by ACP Teewarie of the Central Intelligence Bureau, Snr Sup Edwards of the Special Investigations Unit, and Snr Sup Vernly Gift in the Northern Division. Additional supervision was provided by ASP Rampallard of the Coastal and Air Support Unit, with assistance from Sgt Lee of the SIU Jungle Operations Team and Sgt Forbes of the TTPS Air Support Unit.
Further support was provided by several units of the TTPS, including the NCTFW, NCTFE, NCD CID Ops, NEDTF, and EDTF. External support was also provided by the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force (Regiment) MACP Company, TTR Special Forces Operations Detachment, and the National Operation Fusion Centre.
