A WASA employee has initiated pre action legal proceedings against Guardian Media over claims published in a May 24, 2026 article titled \u201cWASA Hires Under Scrutiny.\u201d
\nAccording to the letter issued by attorney Peter A.C. Taylor on behalf of Nishard Watson of Diego Martin, the publication allegedly falsely categorized Watson as one of several \u201csocial media influencers\u201d hired by the Water and Sewerage Authority following the April 28 general election.
\nThe legal correspondence references claims made in the Sunday Guardian article that nine influencers were hired by WASA with combined monthly salaries totaling $85,398.92. The article also reportedly alleged that the individuals were neither qualified nor useful to WASA\u2019s core operations.
\nThe attorney argues that Watson was in fact appointed as an attendant by letter dated December 9, 2025 at a daily rate of $390.62 and is suitably qualified for the role.
\nThe letter further states that Watson does not possess the type of social media following associated with influencers and therefore should not have been described as one.
\nAccording to the correspondence, the categorization caused Watson embarrassment and exposed him to ridicule, contempt, and allegations that he obtained employment through political patronage rather than merit.
\nThe legal team is demanding evidence within 48 hours to support claims that Watson was an influencer supporting government policies online, was unqualified for his position, and earned the salary attributed to him in the article.
\nAlternatively, the letter calls for a public retraction and apology with similar prominence to the original publication, along with monetary compensation for alleged emotional distress and reputational damage.
