An Ohio State University educational history identifies King Zog I as the first Muslim king in modern Europe—a claim about a ruler’s place in history, rather than a national invention or achievement.

Zog’s ascent passed through three forms of political leadership. According to the university’s account, he became Albania’s youngest prime minister at 27, serving from 1922 to 1924. He then served as president from 1925 to 1928 before becoming king.

The change was formalized by the Constituent Assembly, which declared Albania a monarchy and President Ahmet Bej Zogu its king. The Albanian Kingdom lasted from 1928 to 1939. The same educational account notes that the kingdom received support from Italy’s fascist regime, an important qualification to any celebratory telling of the royal period.

The distinction also needs its precise boundaries: the source describes Zog as modern Europe’s first Muslim king. It does not establish Albania as Europe’s first Muslim state or suggest that his accession introduced Islam to the continent.

Zog’s unusual title is therefore best understood alongside his political trajectory. The historical story is both a European religious distinction and the transformation of an Albanian president into a monarch.

[28

post-6658","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-italy
["GET
