The report said danger-to-life weather warnings remained active across Scotland and northern England until 9pm.

GB News reported gusts reaching 75mph in the Scottish Highlands and Western Isles, with stronger winds anticipated at exposed coastal locations. It quoted Met Office chief forecaster Jason Kelly as saying amber warnings covered mainland Scotland, parts of Northern Ireland and the far north of England, where gusts of 60–70mph were expected widely, potentially reaching 80mph on exposed coasts.

Kelly also warned of gusts of 50–60mph elsewhere and said heavy rain could bring additional impacts, particularly in northern areas. According to the report, the weather service warned that flying debris and powerful waves could endanger life, advised people to remain indoors wherever possible, and highlighted the risk of electricity outages and transport disruption.

The report said tens of thousands of properties across the North West had lost power. It attributed confirmation of thousands of affected homes to SP Electricity North West, including more than 500 in Blackpool and 200 in Wigan.

Air passengers also faced disruption. GB News cited flight-tracking service FlightAware as recording more than 1,500 delayed flights to and from UK airports, with delays averaging two hours, alongside hundreds of cancellations. Airports mentioned in the report included Heathrow, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Rail services were curtailed across several routes. According to GB News, LNER cancelled nearly all its Aberdeen trains and reduced services at Northallerton, Newcastle and Edinburgh to one train per hour in each direction. Avanti West Coast advised passengers against travelling north of Preston, while TransPennine Express reported a fallen tree blocking the line between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Piccadilly.

Blackpool’s tram network was also suspended, the report said. It added that National Highways had closed roads and bridges across the North East and Midlands and urged motorists to exercise extreme caution.

Public events were affected too, with GB News reporting the cancellation of London’s Diwali on the Square celebrations and Liverpool’s River of Light event. Aintree racecourse abandoned its Halloween Fun Day after recording gusts of 44mph, citing the safety of participants, visitors and staff. With warnings reported to remain active into the evening, disruption was continuing across transport networks and public venues.

[61

post-6602","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-united-kingdom
["GET
