The arrival marks Keflavík’s first scheduled connection to mainland China, with the journey operating through Copenhagen. The year-round service runs three times a week, on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. It gives passengers a single Air China journey between Beijing and Iceland, adding another Asian connection to Keflavík’s network. Iceland Review reports that Keflavík Airport described the route as an important connection to one of the world’s largest aviation markets. The service provides additional travel options for passengers leaving Iceland and improves access for travellers coming from China and other parts of Asia. Airport and embassy officials expect the connection to support tourism, business and closer relations between Iceland and China. Those are expectations for the service; the report provides no passenger figures or results from its operation so far. The launch also carries diplomatic significance. Chinese Ambassador He Rulong has linked the service to the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. According to Iceland Review, the Chinese Embassy has been working with Icelandic authorities, tourism representatives and search-and-rescue organisations on travel-safety information for Chinese visitors. For Icelanders considering the journey in the other direction, the report notes that China has introduced visa-free entry for Icelandic citizens for stays of up to 30 days. Together with the new flight schedule, that provides another practical consideration for travellers planning a visit.

[60

post-6508","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-china
["GET
