UNC Councillor Vanessa Kussie Robbed Outside Couva Home<\/p>\n
United National Congress councillor Vanessa Kussie has become the latest victim of crime in Couva after two men robbed her outside her Roystonia home on Thursday night, October 22.<\/p>\n
The incident occurred around 9.30 pm, just two weeks after two men were killed during police encounters in the nearby Perseverance community.<\/p>\n
According to Kussie, who represents Couva West\/Roystonia, she was sitting outside her home, where her son operates the Nick and Nigel Mini Mart, when two men approached pretending to be customers.<\/p>\n
One purchased a small Coca-Cola before returning to buy a bottle of water. Moments later, one of the men snatched a chain from around her neck and walked away.<\/p>\n
The situation escalated when the suspects approached her 45-year-old neighbour, who was standing near his vehicle.<\/p>\n
One of the men pointed a firearm at the neighbour, who reportedly pleaded with the suspects not to shoot. They stole his car keys, wallet and mobile phone.<\/p>\n
For Kussie, the incident adds to a series of painful experiences.<\/p>\n
She is the widow of Rishi Nagassar, one of four divers who died in the Paria diving tragedy. She previously experienced a robbery at a business she owned, while one of her sons was kidnapped last year before being rescued by police.<\/p>\n
Despite the latest incident, Kussie praised officers for responding promptly and continuing to check on her family.<\/p>\n
However, she acknowledged that crime remains a serious concern for residents of Roystonia and surrounding communities.<\/p>\n
She also appealed to parents to guide their children towards education, skills training and positive opportunities rather than criminal activity.<\/p>\n
The robbery follows the October 12 police killings of Jason Hilaire and Nixon Stewart during separate encounters in Perseverance.<\/p>\n
